There you are at last, friendz… Zekid, Zarbi and Zescro are planning to seize the powers of "Pachamama", or Mother Nature as we call her here... If they succeed, they will be able to control her! To disrupt her! We must stop them at all costs.

Starting point: southern car park in Chambon (N45°39.348’ / E000°33.272’)

In ancient times, the balance of the world relied on the powers of the gods. Some of them controlled the planets, others could forecast the weather without fail... As for Pachamama, she was the guardian of the spirit of nature. Mother of the rivers and mountains, of the earth and the rock...

The story goes that when she saw humans destroying their environment, she died of sorrow. But her soul lived on. Inside every tree, every plant, every insect...

Despite her disillusionment, Pachamama was sure that humans would eventually change their ways. So she gave them the chance to exercise her powers themselves, by putting them within their reach. They are located near us, in unexpected natural caches that are hard to access...

Leave the car park then follow the road towards the next spot.

Le Chambon, sport and nature (N45° 39.518’ / E000°33.406’)

Mother Nature had four powers: "sharing", "strength", "respect" and "beauty".

That's funny! Those are also the virtues of sport! Here we are on one of the paths that wind through the 90 hectares of Le Chambon, a "Sport & Nature" resort. In the hamlet below, they welcome children and teenagers for rock climbing, mountain biking, kayaking, caving and horse-riding! Their activities help them get to know their environment through outdoor sports.

Le Chambon-Villageis a place for group holidays. Le Chambon-Station has a range of activities for the general public. For more information: 05 45 70 70 42 ;

Visiting Le Chambon is about enjoying a sporty break, of course... But also learning to live together, listening to other people and nature!

So near here, Mother Nature offers you "sharing", one of her powers. What figure is engraved on the back of it?

Write this digit down. It is the equivalent of A : A =_____
beneath a manger, by the roadside.

After looking at this clue, please put it back for the next players who come.

Continue along the main road. Just after the campsite, take the path downhill towards the Tardoire.

The Tardoire cliffs (N45° 39.636’ / E000°33.630’)

Well played, friends! Three powers left to find and make safe... I wonder where they're hiding?

In any case, it's no surprise that Mother Nature hid them here! This is a listed "Natura 2000" site and a "Sensitive Natural Area" due to the diverse fauna and flora that live here... In fact, do you see those cliffs by the river, to your left?

Yeah! The ideal spot for rock climbing!

It's above all the nesting place of the peregrine falcon, the world's fastest bird when it's diving to catch its prey! Even you couldn't beat its record time, Zabdo... This bird of prey has chosen to make a home in these cliffs. They are made of granite, unlike in the rest of Charente, where the rock is mainly limestone.

Let's see if you've been paying attention. Which species of bird, now protected, lives in the granite cliffs by the Tardoire?
1) Montagu's harrier
2) The European nightjar
3) The peregrine falcon
Note the number of the correct answer.

Write this digit down. It is the equivalent of B : B =_____

Near the river... (N45°39.630’ / E000°33.846')

Welcome to the banks of the Tardoire! I love this place, it's very lively when children are here! Some are in kayaks, others go climbing on the wall you see on the other side... Zabdo, are you coming to work out too?

Not really. It looks like the Bad Poï’z are trying to steal Mother Nature's powers! We're trying to find them before they do.

Zekid and his gang? Let me ask the dragonflies and the kingfisher for information...

So, Zéïdon? What did they say?!

They feel that a malevolent force is hanging over the forest at the moment. You must hurry! One of Pachamama's powers is at the top of a climbing wall... To find it, just follow the riparian forest.

The ripa-what?

The riparian forest! It's that natural woodland by the river. Its tree roots hold the riverbank in place and capture pollutants from the surrounding land. Meanwhile, the vegetation that grows there slows down the waters of the Tardoire during floods.

Spot the odd one out among the following statements! What does the riparian forest help with?
1) Holding the riverbanks in place with its roots
2) Slowing down pollution
3) Slowing the water down during floods
4) Feeding the fish

Note the number of the wrong answer.

Write this digit down. It is the equivalent of C : C =_____

The "climbing wall" (N45°39.500’ / E000°33.648’)

Did you hear that, Zéïdon? The Bad Poï’z are already here! Try and catch Pachamama's second power, before they get their hands on it...

At the top of the wall, Mother Nature bequeaths you "strength", one of her powers. What number is engraved on the back of it?

Write this number down. It is the equivalent of D : D =_____

Take care when climbing the wall. After looking at the clue, please put it back.

At N 45°39.308' / E 000°33.598' go up the marked path to your right.

Horse-riding ground (N45° 39.342’ / E000° 33.527’)

Easy does it! Easy does it, Belle de Jour… Easy does it.

I say, the mare's pretty nervous today.

Grrrr. It's because something's happening on the estate. Something serious. You know what I'm talking about?

Yes… But we'd rather not say any more for now. The animals mustn't be put under any more stress.

Have you noticed the stablez in Le Chambon have solar panels on their roofs? They capture the sun's power to supply all the horses' buildings with electricity. An infinite energy source, as long as there's sunlight...

We can't be sure of that if the Bad Poï’z manage to plunge nature into darkness!

Mother Nature has hidden one of her powers near here. It's "respect". What figure is engraved on it?

Write this digit down. It is the equivalent of E : E =_____
Walk past the horses' field for a few metres on the right. Inside the totem.

Retrace your steps for a short distance, back to where the uphill climb took you. Take the path going up to the next spot.

Dead trees?! (N45°39.304’ / E000°33.556’)

The evil is already gnawing away at the trees... Some of them have died and are peppered with holes!

Calm down, Zellé. It's nothing sinister, it's just life! In fact, people say there's nothing more full of life than a dead tree. Do you know why? Because it attracts many insects, particularly stag beetles, which go there to lay their eggs. Once they've hatched, their larvae feed on the rotting wood.

I don't get it? What about these holes, then?!

They were made by the European green woodpeckers! They tap the trunk with their beaks to find the tunnels where the stag beetle larvae are living, then catch them with their sticky tongue! The holes are then re-used by squirrels, owls and even bats...

Are you talking about me? You look worried... Can I help you?

Zenight. We are looking for one of Mother Nature's powers. It's very important because if the Bad Poï'z find it before we do, the consequences could be catastrophic.

Have you been paying attention? Who eats stag beetle larvae by tapping the dead trees?
1) The owl
2) The European green woodpecker
3) The squirrel
Note the number of the correct answer.

Write this digit down. It is the equivalent of F : F =_____

Follow the path then bear right slightly. Go to the intersection at the next stop.

Orienteering punch (N45°39.222’ / E000°33.590’)

Come here, friends! This is where Mother Nature has hidden her last power. In this thicket... Zabdo, can you go and have a look?

Near your position, look for orienteering punch no. 64. Remember to put the clue back after your visit.

Find Mother Nature's final power: "beauty". It's tied to a tree, near the orienteering punch. Note the number of vowels in the inscribed sentence in French, which means "Beauty is ours".

Write this number down. It is the equivalent of G : G =_____

Nooooo! We're too late! The Bad Poï’z have made off with it...

Coming out of the thicket, turn right as you go downhill. Once you reach N 45°39.152' / E 000°33.487',turn right towards the next step.

The little pebbles (N45°39.285’ / E000°33.516’)

How ever are we going to find Mother Nature's beauty?! Zekid and his acolytez must be far away now...

I'm not so sure. Look! It looks like Pachamama is helping us to follow their tracks! Like Tom Thumb, she's dropped pebbles behind them!

A few centuries ago, the Tardoire basin was mined for iron ore, found in its soil and also on the surface. That's why, on the path, you can see fragments of ore, those iron-bearing, quite heavy pebbles...

Iron ore was used to make cannon for the royal navy! In the 17th century, there were many foundries in the area around Le Chambon, near the river. The cannon were then brought to Angoulême on carts, before being sent up the Charente to Rochefort arsenal.

What remnant of the old Tardoire foundries can you discover along the way?
1) The central arch of a blast furnace
2) Iron ore, present in the form of small, slightly rusty pebbles
3) The barrel of a cannon
Note the number of the correct answer.

Write this digit down. It is the equivalent of H : H =_____

Continue along the path. At the next intersection, turn left.

The Bad Poï’z ! (N45°39.350’ / E000°33.418’)

The pebbles end here… So the Bad Poï’z must be nearby.

Give that back to me, you fool.

No way, Zescro!

It's quite easy to find you, with the racket you're making! Now, give us back the power of Mother Nature! Or I assure you there's going to be trouble.

Oh yes? And what are you going to do? This power is for our leader, Z. Since nature wasn't too kind to her, she plans to steal its beauty. These green meadows, these flowers, these butterflies... Soon, there will be nothing left!

All right, Zekid. Like me, you're a competitive type. Am I right? So ask us one of your riddles. If we know the answer, we get the power back. If we can't guess the answer, you can keep it. OK?

Let's see if you've been paying attention. What's the name of the river that runs near here? Count the letters and divide this number by 2. Write this number down.

Write this digit down. It is the equivalent of I : I =_____

The cache !

You've been impressive, my sporty pals! Well done. Now, we have to put Mother Nature's powers somewhere safe... How about this tree trunk?

It's ideal, Zabdo! What's more, you'll be there to watch over them.
