You just added "The missing florins" to your bucketlist ! You'll be able to visualize it in your adventure logbook.

I implore you, please help me, friendz! Antoine de Pessagne is coming to the house of my Lord Pierre de Castelnau. At the start of the 14th century, this rich Genoan merchant lent him 3,000 florins to build his bastide. Today, he's coming to get his money back!

What a tricky situation!

Starting point: car park at the Cave des Vignerons de Tursan (winegrowers' cooperative) (N43° 38.277' / W000° 22.905')

We have to buy some time in order to raise the 3,000 florins we owe to Antoine de Pessagne. I suggest giving him a welcome worthy of the greatest ferias! No doubt these festivities will make him forget the purpose of his visit...

For a successful party, you need wine! Nearly 400 hectares of vines are cultivated under the AOP Tursan appellation. But the history of this "confidential vineyard" goes back much further than that! Very popular with Roman emperors, the Tursan wines were later exported to London, Cordoba and Seville in the 12th century. They even reached Flanders and Northern Europe.

Get several barrels ready for me, Zalambic! I'm sure Antoine de Pessagne will appreciate these tannic and full-bodied red wines...

You're talking like a real oenologist! So come and choose what you want at the cooperative cellar. Founded in 1958, it stocks the wine produced by the growers in Tursan, made from various grape varieties: Cabernet, Fer Servadou, Manseng, Baroque…

Which objects, connected with the winegrower's trade, are on display inside the cooperative cellar of Tursan?
1- Giant corkscrews
2- Grape-pickers' baskets
3- Casks
Note the number of the correct answer.

At N 43°38.259' / W 000°22.807', turn right onto Rue du Souvenir Français.

The arena (N43° 38.259' / W000° 22.807')

Now the wine is chosen, let's see how the preparations for the feria are coming along...

Tonight, Antoine de Pessagne will be attending a course landaise, such as he has never seen before! The feistiest cows are brought to the arena to battle the most skilful dodgerz and leapers in the region! The latter vault over the animal as it runs around, like real acrobats...

Now that's a dangerous sport! Nearly as risky as venturing onto the roads of Tursan before Geaune was built...

In the 14th century, the fortified town was built on land owned by Pierre de Castelnau and placed under the authority of King Edward II of England. As for dear Antoine de Pessagne, he financed it! Named Seneschal of Gascony by his majesty, he concluded an "act of parage" with Pierre de Castelnau, the event that founded the bastide. "Geaune" is in fact throught to be derived from "Genoa", from whence the merchant came.

Climb to the top of the red steps to the left of the entrance. How many plane trees grow in the arena ring?

Write this digit down. It is the equivalent of B : B =_____

Hey, Zabeth. Want a tip? Tonight, bet all your florins on "Fédérale". This cow is still new to the competition, but I promise her a great future... Ten to one: jackpot guaranteed.

Take the path opposite the arena to reach Rue principale. At the end of that street, turn right. At N 43°38.370' / W 000°22.726', turn right again.

The Baron house (N43° 38.361' / W000° 22.714')

Hello, youngsters! I heard about the missing 3,000 florins... Take this. Here are some of my savings to help fill the coffers.

Thank you, Zacquet.

This 18th-century building, which was used as a hospital during the Revolution, also welcomed pilgrims.

On the arch of the coach gate, there was an inscription inviting pilgrims to meditate on their living conditions. It said: "Passans, pensez à la mort. Ah, que la mort est..." ("Passers-by, think of death. Ah, death is so...")
1- Fâcheuse (vexing)
2- Cruelle (cruel)
3- Longue (long)
Note the number of the correct answer.

Write this digit down. It is the equivalent of C : C =_____

The central square (N43° 38.431' / W000° 22.669')

Here we are at the heart of the bastide. The ideal place to learn more about its history! Geaune is a fortified town, built on one of the highest points in the region, so they could see enemiez coming. Like many bastides, it has a chequerboard plan divided into 25 identical squares, with the central one occupied by the market hall.

In the time of Pierre de Castelnau, the merchants were exempt from many taxes, which contributed to the boom in trade. The bastide's residents set their own taxes and only paid those deemed useful to the community.

In what year was the bastide created? Add up the four digits in this date to obtain a number.

Write this number down. It is the equivalent of D : D =_____
the bastide is "paved" with good intentions!

Take Rue principale to the right of the town hall. At N 43°38.453' / W 000°22.612',take the steps towards the church.

The Church of St. John the Baptist (N43° 38.458' / W000° 22.627')

I see everything is in place for the arrival of Antoine de Pessagne. It's perfect! Since we have a few hourz before he arrives, let's try and find the 3,000 florins...

And how about the Church of St. John the Baptist? That's worth a mention!

The Church of St. John the Baptist was built between 1380 and 1452, long after the bastide was founded. The Hundred Years War then the Wars of Religion considerably slowed down the construction process and required a change to the original plans.

Look at the sign. In what period was the bell tower built?
1- Late 14th – Early 15th century
2- Mid-15th – Early 16th century
3- In the 19th century
Note the number of the correct answer.

Write this digit down. It is the equivalent of E : E =_____

Admire this coat of armz, above the door to the right of the bell tower. They were added by the King of France to assert his power once he had reclaimed Aquitaine.

At N 43°38.470' / W 000°22.649' turn left onto Rue du Village Neuf. Turn right onto Rue de Tursan.

The Malta Tower (N43° 38.464' / W000° 22.732')

The remains of a house of the Order of Malta can be found in Geaune. This organisation was founded in the 12th century. Thanks to donations from the faithful, the Order of Malta owned many priories and commanderies all over Catholic Europe and in the Holy Land. Devoted to creating hospitals, it later took on a military function.

The knights of the Order amassed incredible treasures during the crusades! There must be a treasure equivalent to 3,000 florins hidden in this tower...

Sorry, Zéroïk, but the building has never contained the slightest bit of treasure... Not even the Order of Malta! Their house was to the north of the bastide. As for this tower, it's a fortification from the 14th century, belonging to a local noble family.

How many geminated windows can you count on the tower's façade?

Write this digit down. It is the equivalent of F : F =_____
This is a type of window divided into two equal halves

The Augustines' Tower (N43° 38.414' / W000° 22.803')

This tower is a remnant of a 15th-century monastery, home to a community of Augustinian monks. The latter were in charge of watching over the tombs of the Lords of Castelnau.

Under the orders of Gabriel I of Montgomery, a Huguenot leader, the bastide was sacked, as were all the fortified towns in Tursan during the Wars of Religion. Only the monastery was spared, as the Castelnau family had converted to Protestantism.

Look at the carved culs-de-lampe. What item is held by an angel?
1- A ship
2- A crown
3- A florin
Note the number of the correct answer.

Write this digit down. It is the equivalent of G : G =_____

Hear ye, hear ye. Antoine de Pessagne's carriage is entering the bastide!

Let's wait for the end of the course landaise to tell him the bad news.
