You just added "The "chirons" awaken" to your bucketlist ! You'll be able to visualize it in your adventure logbook.

You've come at the right time, friendz! I've been looking for Zektonic for over an hour! Yet I told him to leave the Jardin des Chirons before nightfall...

Because… It's dangerous?

Car park at the Rocher Branlant site N 46°39.637' / W 000°31.734'.

Starting point: the entrance to the Jardin des Chirons (N46° 39.631' / W0° 31.722')

When night falls, enormous rocks called "chirons" awaken and come to life at the heart of this garden! In ancient times, giants, ogres and witches gathered around the Rocher Branlant... These beings, mostly malevolent, were turned to stone and condemned to remain in that state from sunrise to sunset.

Ah, there you go! We just have to wait till the first light of dawn to intervene!

And leave Zektonic alone with those creatures? No way. Come on, Zarthus, have a bit of courage.

How many slanted beams make up the Gâtine barrier, at the entrance to the Jardin des Chirons?

Le chiron bulle (the bubble chiron) (N46° 39.565' / W000° 31.735')

And I thought chirons were blocks of granite, shaped by the water and wind… A very hard magmatic rock, formed in the earth's crust over 300 million years ago.

If it were all purely scientific, as you say... Explain to me how a rock can do that!

Look at the little shape sticking out of the chiron bulle, to the right of the hollow path. What part of the face does it look like?
1- A mouth
2- An ear
3- Eyes
Note the number of the correct answer.

How awful! I think I'm going to faint...

This part probably belonged to the body of a troll... If Zektonic was kidnapped by one of them, it's not so bad! Trolls are dumb as rocks.

At N 46°39.528' / W 000°31.755', leave the hollow path to continue on the right.

The River Sèvre Nantaise (N46° 39.507' / W000° 31.769')

Zellé, not so fast! I heard a noise in the river... Oh dear... Someone's following us...

Hi there! Oops. Sorry, Zarthus... It looks like you nearly died of cold in the water!

He'll recover... Zéïdon, have you seen a troll in the area?

I certainly did! As I slept on the bed of the Sèvre Nantaise, I felt the earth shake. I came up to the surface and that's where I saw him! That enormous troll! He was running along the riverbank, towards the Rocher Branlant. Zektonic was with him…

In the footsteps of giants (N46° 39.522' / W000° 31.789')

Did you hear what Zéïdon said? The troll was taking Zektonic to the Rocher Branlant! It used to be the place where people performed rituals and sacrifices around a big fire... I'm afraid our Poï'z friend might be dinner tonight.

And how are we going to find this rock called Rocher Branlant? There's nothing but rocks all over the place!

Just follow in the footsteps of giants! Some have left their prints in the rock... Look.

The cracks you can see in this chiron mean it emerged from the ground, in several instalments! Count the number of letters in its name (three words in French that start successively with F, D and R). Write this number down.

Mammouth (Mammoth) (N46° 39.532' / W000° 31.809')

The tracks stop here... But I don't think we're at the Rocher Branlant. I can't see any trolls, or Zektonic...

Watch out, Zellé! Behind you!

Ha ha! Was it Mammouth who scared you? Come on, that chiron is as friendly as can be! It's the biggest I've ever seen, and the oldest, too. Did you know it's over 70 million years old! That's why I nicknamed it "Mammouth".

In any case, it looks very heavy!

Climb on its back! It'll lead us to the Rocher Branlant...

What is the particularity of this large chiron?
1- It was "cut" in two
2- It's carved in the shape of a pyramid
3- It's formed of red crystals
Note the number of the correct answer.

The Rocher Branlant (N46° 39.571' / W000° 31.848')

Mammouth. Stop there, my good fellow. I hear voices... "Mutton yesterday, mutton today and, devil take me! It looks like it'll have to be mutton again tomorrow!" said a troll to his neighbour.

"There's a change tonight! Look what I found on the path. It looks like... Chicken," answered the one holding Zektonic in his hand.

Please, trolls. I'm not a chicken... I'm a Poï'z! A Poï'z specialising in the study of the earth's crust, its structure and evolution...

"If you don't want us to devour you, answer the following riddle," said the first.

E = C/2

Ha ha! Well played, Zektonic! While they're thinking about it, you'll already be far away...

Since we have a little time to spare, let's look at this 30-tonne rock. It's formed by three minerals, which crystallised due to the magma cooling off slowly. There's translucent, greyish "quartz", opaque, white "feldspath", and finally "mica"...

...Those are the sparkling black or silver flecks.

The Jardin des Chirons (N46° 39.582' / W000° 31.863')

To think all this is the result of a long process of natural erosion! Over the years, the water altered the granitic bedrock of the Armorican Massif, in western France. Large blocks broke off, then moved away before emerging from the ground. This phenomenon is called "solifluction".

We'll talk geology later, Zektonic! Let's leave this place quickly before we get into another pickle.

The arboretum (N46° 39.633' / W000° 31.801')

Phew! There's a garden that suits me much better... It's an arboretum! In this plantation with a variety of tree species, you're more likely to be hit on the head by an acorn than see a troll jump out at you... Aren't you, Zellé?

What fruit is produced by the tree described as "common"?
1- Acorns
2- Quinces
3- Apples
4- Cherries
Note the number of the correct answer.

The chiron tree (N46° 39.584' / W000° 31.788')

Thank you for coming to my aid, friendz. In future, I promise I'll study the chirons in broad daylight...

Actually, look! The sun's coming up! The garden creatures will turn to stone again, until night falls once more...

How many trunks does the tree growing in the middle of the chiron have?

The cache!

During your walks, look carefully at the big rocks by your path. Do any seem to have moved? Have any of them murmured? If so, it's probably because these chirons are sleeping creatures...

« Attention geocaching friends ! No need to lift rocks, pick walls apart, or uproot plants... the cache is most likely there, right before your eyes! Remember that your quest must remain environmentally friendly ! Thank-you ! »

If your answers are all correct, the cache’s GPS coordinates will be green on the app. Click on "locate the cache" then let the app guide you!
