What is Geocaching ?

It’s a worldwide game, much like a treasure hunt, where you use your GPS. Containers called « caches » are hidden in remarkable spots and several objects, including a log book, enable players to communicate about their adventure. Once you have found the cache, you put the information on the Internet for Geocachers around the world.

What is Geocaching in Limousin ? Tèrra Aventura !

Tèrra Aventura is Limousin’s fun version of Geocaching, with caches all over the 3 « departments » (Creuse, Corrèze and Haute-Vienne). Geocachers are guided from one spot to the next thanks to a series of riddles, in order to find the treasure.

How to participate ?

Plan your adventure on this website !

- Click on the item called « the caches ».
- Select one of the 60 caches by choosing its theme, difficulty level and accessibility.
- Click on « See the description form » to obtain the clues that will enable you to find the treasure cache.
- Click on « Download the notebook » to download and print out the form. Be careful, you will need this form to complete the adventure.
- If you don’t have a printer, go to a participating Tourist Office who will print the form out for you.

Now it’s time to head out and search for the treasure !

- You will find coordinates of your departure spot on the form. Enter them into your GPS and let it guide you ! You will need a GPS if you want to be a Geocacher !
- You can use your own GPS (or SmartPhone with a GPS application.)
- If you don’t have a GPS, you can rent one in participating Tourist Offices.

Share your experience and leave a trace !

Once you’ve finished the quest... leave a comment in the logbook you’ll find in the cache and on the Tèrra Aventura website! The evidence you will need to prove you have found the cache is a mystery word that is written in the logbook. Write it down then type it in on terra-aventura.fr. You will need the mystery word to participate in the Tèrra Aventura contest. The more caches you find, the greater your chances are of winning (a Trip, a GPS…)

What is the treasure ?

The treasure is a box/container (or cache) with prizes for geocachers and it is also the Poï’z’s home.

1. The Tèrra Aventura cache
A cache (or geocache) is a bottle containing a prize, a logbook, different objects left behind by other geocachers, and it also contains “Poï’z”.

2. The logbook
The logbook is a visitor’s booklet enabling geocachers to relate their quest, and to write down what objects they took or added to the cache.

3. Geocoins/TravelBug
Geocoins are metal coins that travel across the world thanks to geocachers. They are engraved with a single number so they can be located on the official geocaching.com website. You can buy a small chain in participating tourist offices that you can clip onto a personal object, in order to send it out into the world!

4. Badges
These are collectible broaches. On each badge there is a small character symbolizing the cache’s theme, called a Poï’z. There are 8 themes: History and monuments, Waterside, Sports, Nature, Know-how, Tales and Legends, Animals and Medieval. There are enough badges in each container for each geocacher. Please take no more than one per person!

5. The Bad Poï'z

Limousin’s caches are in danger. The mysterious “Bad Poï’z” invaders are threatening their ecosystem.

Tèrra Aventura’s Wisemen Council has declared that any suspect belonging to the dark side must be captured.

If you come across a Bad Poï’z during your quest, go to www.terra-aventura.fr/badpoiz to say that you have captured one, then go to a participating Tourist Office where you will be awarded a medal and a prize.
